About ten years ago, I bought a wood chunk at a Kansas thrift store and I named him Lovey.
I don’t know where he’s from, who made him, or why he exists. He’s got seashell and pebble eyes, rock teeth, and a mostly eaten-off almond nose — and he’s always issuing a wise and hopeful order in all caps:
“SO I AM NOT LOVELY —- I AM LOVEABLE! TRY IT — YOU’LL LIKE IT!!”
I wish this was our new pledge of allegiance…or that it was printed on the dollar bill next to E Pluribus Unum…or embossed on everyone’s driver’s license.
Now, a few days ago I was looking at http://www.sharyboyle.com/ and came across her painting called The BEAST. It’s Lovey, man. He’s alive.
Of COURSE, the great Shary Boyle would know and paint Lovey. They probably go waaayyy back. She tried it and she liked it. A lot.
